Peacock Pens & Dead Roses - CLOSURE

Composition: © Thomas Gomez | Lyrics: © Pierre Bergounioux

Did you make it?

© Pierre Bergounioux, October 2018

When you saw me

in the grounds, off the hospital

with him by my side

What did you feel?

You in that Johnny gown

smoking your awe away

wound up with a wristband

on a hot September day

Did you make it?

You said you'd be a star?

Did you make it?

And when we left

he leaned to me nonchalantly

and said you might not

make it or live another night

That's not your fault they said

don't let it invade your own headspace

We'd really given it a go

He said you would not live

another night
So, tell me

Did you make it?

Phantom love
© Pierre Bergounioux, October 2018

You didn’t think twice
In bright daylight
For everyone to see
Little did you care back then

Love took over
For ever and a day, mon cœur

Love took over

As passion grew
You made sure no one knew

Love took over
One you said was for ever

Now you won’t you feel alone

As night is closing in
For no one to know
Not even that we had love

Dear, there ain’t no love
I wouldn’t fight for
As long as you shine above

I know that I’m not poor

Now that I am left to mourn

For no one to see
I know why I was born

Since I had you by me

Hoboken Girl
© Pierre Bergounioux, November 2018

Late July afternoon with a view

in Gansevoortpark hotel

Sitting on your side
over the pool

Hoboken girl

Working the rooftop

The Empire State building

dimming lights of hell

Sipping as to hide

from the fool

Hoboken girl

Working the rooftop

Gramercy
Thanks for nothing

See, I recall your pitch

Fiddling on your martini

One eye on the suits

Working your way up

One John at a time

Hoboken girl

Hitting the ceiling

Would you remember me

Turning you down
After so much talking
I hadn’t much to offer

Hoboken girl

I wasn’t much of lead

Just been fired from a magazine

Husband would hit you
The kids to feed
Texas raised born in Wisconsin

Hoboken girl

I’m one of the breed

Barbado
© Pierre Bergounioux, Dec 2018

Barbado that’s where we have to go
It has a sweet name a bit like Colorado

A country that shines
Away from hard times
Away we go, set course on Barbado

To Barbado we head
That’s where I’ve set my heart
To girls with sweet chins, a bit like Aline

Virgins with no names
And pimps they tame,

Running to millions

Away we go, set course on Barbado

We’ll keep watch together

And we‘ll have a drink or two

As many as there’re roads

We won’t say a word

If you’re not much of a watcher

If you’ve never sailed
You can still be called a brother

You’ve given up enough

When I’ve traveled my fill

I’ll make it to the shore

I’ll gain the other side

Barbado, that’s where everything ends

Worries, aching and sorrow
Because where Barbado comes to life

That’s where songs come to die

From sun to sun

One drink and we go home

He’d say
But home is where the heart is

They say

Well, you get the picture

He didn’t have a hint of lie
He had one drink and he was home

That’s where he pinned his heart

From sun to sun
Day in day out
To the country from under the coaster

Where one drink is too many
And one thousand is not enough

He just had too much too drink

She’d say
But it ain’t love unto; it hurts

They say

Well, you get the picture

He didn’t have a hint of lie
He just had too much to drink

That’s where she pinned her heart

She’d had too much of a good thing

P’lice said
Sure wasn’t gone in a blink

Coroner’s inquest concluded

He just had one drink and she was gone

In case you wonder where she was bound

Hang my light
© Pierre Bergounioux, Dec 2018

Home alone
On a dull Saturday afternoon

Looking at the birds outside
back and forth to the feeder

While I can’t seem to feed my soul

Our whereabouts to the station

That talk on the platform

Taking stock of our passion

Even maybe a love of some form

If it’s true what they say
You are your own light
I’m not sure where to hang mine

For you to find me in my night

If it’s true what they say
You are your own light
How long will it shine?

For you to love me as you might

Where do you go when you’re bored

When the stove is dying off
When love is not enough
To justify why you were born

The only heat I get
Lying down in a blue funk Is from the cigarette

Getting my heart drunk

If it’s true what they say
You are your own light
I’m not sure where to hang mine

For you to find me in my night

If it’s true what they say
You are your own light
How long will it shine?
For you to love me as you might

Lie to me
© Pierre Bergounioux, 2019

Now that is what I call love

Kindle sparks of joy ‘n horror

A wry smile in the mirror

Rules me with a fleuret glove

I’m Narcissus in the stream

blurting rumors of demise

Lie to me
Spare me the bare truth

I'll soon know
Where the larks hatch

I see my death in your eyes

Like I collapsed on the floor

You saw me black out before

Cause I’d die to see them smile

But dear there is no love

I wouldn’t fight for

Lie to me
Spare me the bare truth

I'll soon know
Where the larks hatch

Whirring sounds

© Thomas Gomez, Jan 2019

Whirring sounds through my head
Like the blowing wind on my window pane

Picking up the pieces, smothering my pain

Reaching for the end
An urge running through my veins

All I ever wanted was to feel you close to me

Instead I’m loaded with meds – blame it on me !

I’ve got too much to say
Choked up words down my throat

Candlelight in the dark
Lit up to guide my past

Brooding in the dark
Tangled up in black
Finding my way out
but it’s tearing me apart

Shattered glass over the place

Scattered across the floor
